Our adventure with alpacas first began when we purchased a house and barn on 10 acres in North Oakland County. The rural feel of this property reminded us of our childhood homes, so we were particularly drawn to it.  It also had the added benefit of  being close to expressways and not far from our children and grandchildren. 

    After having owned an operated several profitable businesses in the past, we were looking ahead to retirement and a business that would not only allow us to earn a good return on our investment, but also fit our newly established rural lifestyle.  Upon reading an article in The Oakland Press about a couple in Michigan who owned Alpacas,  we decided to learn more about the adorable animals in the pictures.  Further research on the internet, led us to information about the investment potential of alpaca ownership, and the return on investment.  After contacting several Alpaca Breeders, we were ready to establish our Alpaca farm and make our first purchase.

     Pebble Brook Farm Alpacas was established in 1998 and was named for the farm that Phil’s grandfather had owned and operated in Oswegatchie, N.Y.  Phil’s father, Willard, grew up on that farm and helped manage it.  Along with our children,  we all recall  stories told by Willard about selling milk from the family farm as a boy.  As our property so reminded us of our hometowns, nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains of N.Y., it seemed fitting to continue the family tradition by calling our farm, Pebble Brook Farm Alpacas. 

    We have met many wonderful people in the alpaca industry and have established many friendships.  Our experience as business owners,  working as volunteers for several different organizations, and working in the corporate environment, has given us a solid background to establish a future in the alpaca business.  Not only are we dedicated to our alpacas and our business,  but we also realize the importance of providing exceptional service to our clients.
